High-efficiency gas, induced draft boiler (water only): A direct vent system that does not require a chimney because it vents byproducts through the house wall via metal or plastic vents. High-Efficiency gas, power-vented boiler (water only) : These boilers use blowers or fans to exhaust gases by pushing them through horizontal vent pipes
Learn MoreThe four systems required to operate a steam boiler are: steam, feed water, fuel, & draft. A safe and efficient boiler plant should include _____ pumps. Exam 3 Boiler Room Systems. Definition. Term. On a boiler burning low pressure gas, the volume (amount) of gas burned is controlled by the:

Learn MoreA gas/oil boiler has no inventory or bed of fuel. When you trip the burner, for all practical purposes, the heat input immediately stops. With solid fuel units, however, a fairly large mass of bark, coal, etc., is still on the grate and even though starved of air by the loss of the forced draft fan, these units have more "thermal inertia" and
Learn Morefor safe boiler operation are outlined in the latest edition of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) boiler and combustion systems hazards code.3 In addition to the NFPA code, an understanding of the desired unit operation needs to be considered when designing the natural gas supply system.
Learn MoreGas Safety Record Due to the ongoing COVID-19 situation, some engineers have had their qualifications temporarily extended whilst lockdown and social distancing measures are in place. To avoid any confusion, please use the 'Check A Business' function to ensure the business and engineer you're employing is qualified and registered.
Learn MoreI confess that boilers and boiler safety intrigue me. I have only had one close call in all my years of servicing and sales of commercial boilers. I was starting a new boiler and the installer had wired the gas valve to the line voltage terminal by mistake and I missed it.
Learn MoreUnfortunately, few boilers get treated to new doors or cleanout covers, and many boilers get replaced when the flue gas leaks get bad. In Summary When contemplating whether to repair or replace a boiler, first assess the condition of the metal the boiler is made of, by whatever means are available.
Learn MoreTime heals all wounds. Except for boilers. Time kills boilers (and causes leaks). Extensive corrosion over a long time is a huge clue that you're due a new boiler, although do get it checked by an engineer first in case they can still save it - just weigh up the cost of repairs and future repairs against the cost of a new boiler.
Learn MoreIf your finding yourself lucky which in most case you will do, the boiler problem will not be related to the safe workings of requiring to use your gas analyser but always remember, as your the last one working on the boiler, you may be responsible for it if any dangers were to occur.
Learn MoreIf the appliance is a boiler or furnace, it'll use 24 VAC to operate the "main" valve. Check to see if you're getting 24 VAC at the terminals on the gas valve. If so, and the boiler or furnace isn't firing up, then you need a new gas valve. If you don't have 24 VAC at the gas valve terminals, check for continuity across all the safety devices
Learn MoreHi there, I'm doing a job, boxing in a combi boiler and have had concerns about how much ventilation it needs. Its a vaillant eco max combi boiler and have spoke to the guys at vaillant and was informed that as its a combi boiler it doesn't need ventilation, However, they did say there needs to be a minimum of 500mm from the front of the boiler, to the doors that access it for servicing reasons.
Learn MoreSteam boilers operate at a higher temperature than hot water boilers, and are inherently less efficient, but high-efficiency versions of all types of furnaces and boilers are currently available. Learn MoreFlue gas analysers usually display a CO/CO2 ratio. This shows the ratio of carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide in the exit flue (chimney) of the appliance. Generally when this level is below 0.004 the boiler is considered to be running efficiently.
